Christmas Light Installation Costs in Newmarket (2026)
Planning ranges for holiday lighting in Newmarket in 2026, and why a Stonehaven two-storey with tall gables costs more to light than a longer bungalow west of Yonge.
The figures below are planning estimates, not prices. They show what holiday lighting commonly comes to on Newmarket houses so you can read a quote with some context. Your own number follows a look at the house or clear photos, because height, gables, trees and power all change it.
Planning ranges
- Seasonal roofline, bungalow or single-storey front: typically $350–$850, including professional-grade LED supplied for the season, clips, a timer and January takedown.
- Seasonal roofline, two-storey front with upper eave and gables: typically $750–$1,600. Tall Stonehaven gables, heritage trim near Main Street or a lit side elevation push it higher.
- Townhouse frontage: typically $300–$650 per unit, lower per unit when a row or a condominium books together.
- Permanent lighting: typically $25–$45 per linear foot installed; a detached two-storey front commonly lands around $3,500–$8,000 and a townhouse front around $1,500–$3,500. A new outlet by a Licensed Electrical Contractor, if needed, is separate.
- Trees and landscape: typically $100–$400 per tree by height and canopy coverage, and $50–$150 per shrub or bed.
- Takedown only, your lights: typically $150–$400, more with labelled storage.
- Commercial: quoted per site; small storefronts commonly start around $600–$1,500, and plazas and condominium entrances run higher.
What moves the number
- Height. An upper gable at six metres plus is slow, careful ladder work under fall protection rules. A bungalow eave is not.
- Gables and detail. Each gable, dormer and porch is measured and fitted separately; heritage houses have more of them.
- Timing. November installs on dry roofs are faster than December installs between snowfalls with sub-zero highs.
- Lights. Supplied for the season, or yours if they are outdoor-rated, certified and pass testing.
- Power. Adequate outlets keep the price down; a new outlet is a Licensed Electrical Contractor's quote.
- Trees and lines. Tall spruce, mature maples and overhead service drops add time.
Running cost
As an illustration only: a display drawing 100 watts for six hours uses 0.6 kWh. At the Ontario Energy Board's time-of-use off-peak price of 9.1 ¢/kWh from 1 November 2026 that is a few cents a night before delivery charges; at the Ultra-Low Overnight plan's weekday on-peak price of 37.7 ¢/kWh the same hours cost about four times as much, which is why the timer matters. Your display's actual draw is noted on the quote.
What a quote should say
Exactly which rooflines, gables, trees and features are included; whether lights are supplied or yours; whether takedown and storage are included; how mid-season service calls work; and proof of insurance. A phone price for a house nobody has seen is a guess.
Frequently asked questions
Why is a Stonehaven two-storey quoted higher than a bigger bungalow?
Height and gables. Upper eaves and tall gables mean slow, careful ladder work at six metres and more; a bungalow's eave is reached from a short ladder all the way round.
Is permanent lighting cheaper over time?
Often, over several seasons. Seasonal installs and takedowns are paid every year; permanent lighting is paid once and also gives you everyday warm white and other occasions.
Is there a charge for a quote?
No. Most Newmarket houses are quoted from a short visit or from photos of the front and any trees to be lit.
Does takedown cost extra?
On most seasonal installs takedown is included, and the quote says so. Takedown of lights you installed yourself is priced separately.
Is a December install more expensive?
It can be. Sub-zero days, snow on the roof and a full calendar slow the work. Booking in October for November is the cheaper path.
Do the ranges include HST?
No. Quotes show the price and HST separately, and the ranges here are before tax.
